Blue fish

Just had a couple of good reports of Blue fish up to 4Lb at the Sea Isle lump and a couple in Townsends Inlet.  At the lump they where getting them trolling little spoons or just casting spoons buck tails or other swimming baits.  In the inlet that where biting mackerel and mullet and some where taken of spoons also.  The flounder have been biting well in the inlet we weighed in a 3,Lb 6,Oz earlier this week.  The flounder fishing in the ocean has picked up also one customer had over 100 fish at the old grounds with 15 keepers.  The inshore shark fishing is still HOT.  King fish are still biting well on the beach with roomers of a few porgies and croakers mixed in.

P.S. Don't for get to get to the store and singe up for the shimano give a way.  Thay are giving $100.00 shopping sprees away to the store.  You can enter till July 31 2011

Big fun Little sharks

Black tip, Hammerhead, Dusky, Brown.  What do all these sharks have in common well they are biting like MAD dogs just off the cost of Sea Isle.  For years now people have been targeting these small coastal sharks ranging from 25-100Lb’s more and more.  They are generally fairly easy to find some of the hot spots include the Sea Isle lump the Avalon Shoal Peacook lump and the Cuma lumps.  The equipment needed is fairly basic also wile some us like to catch them of light gear like fly rods if the conditions permit most people use gear in the 30lb test range (seabass and tog rods work well).  As for terminal tackle not much some light what wire or cable 80-150Lb test and hooks 7/0 to 10/0.  Then there is bait a bucket or log of chum and some mackerel and away you go.  For more INFO stop buy the store and we can get you all set up. P.S. a good de-hooker is a must have…

Wow the flounder fishing has been very exciting since my last report! They are still biting well if you like catch and release. It’s a great time, anglers are reporting dozens of nice flounder just short of legal length with a couple of nice ones still around.  Most of the flat fish are biting well on minnows and mackerel but don’t let me forget the GULP! this stuff is amazing I can barely keep it in stock.  Every one asks what’s the best color well all of them we have sold colors like red yellow glow black and other off beat colors with very positive feed back.  There have also been some good reports of the ocean flounder fishing picking up in places like the T.I. reef and the Sea Isle Lump.  Large buck tails and big bait out there is the key.

the (KISS) methed for big fluke

Jim Albright of Drexel Hill PA landed this doormat Saturday June 18th.  It toppped the scale at 6lb 2oz  and measured 25 ½ inches. Jim was not using any kind of fancy rig or secret bait.  He went old school, the way all of our grandparents taught us how to fish. A simple three way swivel, lead dipsy a long (36in) leadered wide gap hook and a minnow.  Jim has weighed in several fish this year and the key to “his” successes is fishing the right spots.  This fish was taken in the mouth of a crick that was darning into the inner coastal near the Coast Guard base in Townsend Inlet.  I’m not saying that this is the spot you must go, what I'm saying is think like a fish (what would a fish do).
During outgoing tide all the feeder cricks are running low and the tide is dragging out minnows, shrimp crabs and other food. The mouth of that can be great fishing, the fish are just laying there waiting for the food to come to them.  Also look for a hard drop say from 5 feet to 22 feet don’t make a drift and move on. Make a couple of drifts in different depths and try to locate the fish, sometimes the biggest fish are in the shallow water.
What I'm trying to say in this report is many of us overthink our rigs and tackle and underthink what is going on under the boat and in our surroundings.

Good luck in the fishing hunting traping and all the outdoor activities that make this the best country ever

Mike

Bud Miller and Melissia Gattone of Waterford NJ filled there cooler up with 10 beautiful fatties yesterday 6/15/2011 the largest was 4lb 14 oz.  Fishing behind strathmere most of the fish where taken on minnows or spearing.  I have been getting some very good flounder reports and this weekend looks nice so get out and get them.
Spearing are a tough bait they tend to fall of the hook easy. One way to have them last a little longer is try thawing them the night be for and salting them with a little kosher salt.  This will toughen them up a little and keep them on the hook a little longer.
We are open 5-7 Monday – Thursday 5-9 Friday & Saturday and 5-6 Sunday with a full line of bait and new inventory arriving every week.
